How To Manage Stress In Healthy Ways

Stress is an unavoidable fact of life. It’s part of the human condition. Uncertainties & an inability to fully control life events are something we all have to deal with. It’s not hard to get overwhelmed. In fact these days it’s very easy to get overwhelmed with feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, worry, isolation & panic.

It’s imperative to cultivate inner resources for dealing with these feelings. I’m here to try to equip you with as many coping strategies for dealing with the aforementioned feelings & emotions as possible.

One way to take more control of your stress is to track it & find coping mechanisms that work for you.

You can start by making a list of 10 or more things in your life that produce feelings of stress & anxiety. List the stressor, then write a brief description next to the stressor. For example, if you said “Driving in LA,” your description could be, “the constant traffic & noise makes me feel claustrophobic.” Now rate this on a scale of 1-10. With 1 being very little stress & 10 being an extreme amount of stress.

You’ll want to keep this list somewhere that you can come back to it roughly every 3 months or so. Set a calendar event so you can keep track of what stressors maybe disappeared (remove or lower rating), which ones intensified (adjust rating & coping mechanism), and add & rate new stressors that presented themselves (come up with a coping mechanism for new stressor).

You’ll need to find coping mechanism that work for you but here are some helpful suggestions; get outside, meditate, exercise, breathwork, therapy, journal, etc. I’ve also added some guided writing prompts you can consistently come back to help manage your stressors & track habitual patterns.

7-Day Challenge – Daily Self Check-In – Day 3

Today is day 3 of the “7-Day Daily Self Check-In Challenge.” I’m doing this every day this week to help you remember to check in with yourself. A little self-inquiry reminder. So right now, I want you to stop whatever you’re doing and take a few deep breaths. Now ask yourself, how do I feel right now? Am I feeling any physical pain? Am I tense, tight? What about my emotions and feelings? Do I feel calm & collected, scattered, sad, anxious? What can I do right now to take care of myself?

My mindfulness tip for today is to move your body. Move any physical or emotional stress, anxiety & tension out of your body via any type of movement that resonates with you. Movement is incredibly healing and we hold a lot of stress & tension in our bodies. We also hold a lot of emotional pain in our bodies as well. If you can’t do this exercise right now save this post for later and give it a try.

That’s it for today, I’ll see you tomorrow, have a good day!

7-Day Challenge – Daily Self Check-In – Day 2

This is day 2 of the daily self check-in we’re doing this entire week. I’m here to help you remember to check in with yourself, both physically & mentally, to see how you’re feeling today and to assess what you need to do for yourself so you can be more mindful, healthy and happy.

So stop what you’re doing right now, take a deep breath, and ask yourself, how am I? How do I feel? What do I need?

Today’s mindfulness tip is to breath it out! Deep breathing is the most underrated stress & anxiety reliever of all time, lol 😂 and it works so well. I’d love for you to try this right now. If you can’t do it right now save this post and come back to it later. I promise it will make you feel better.

Just do 3 quick breaths and then you can carry on with your day. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth…

Inhale, exhale…
Inhale, exhale…
One more time, Inhale, exhale.

That’s it, it’s that simple. I’ll see you tomorrow, I hope you’re having a good day.

What Is Mindfulness, Anyway?

Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating moment to moment nonjudgmental awareness into your daily routine. Mindfulness can help to reduce stress & anxiety and bring balance and peace into your life.

“Mindfulness is like that—it is the miracle which can call back in a flash our dispersed mind and restore it to wholeness so that we can live each minute of life.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

When working with clients I specifically focus on mindfulness & meditation techniques that allow them to bring attention to whatever is coming up for them physically & mentally in their day-to-day lives without trying to change, manage, or shape their experience. The goal is to observe & let it be. Eventually this practice will lead you to greater knowledge about the root cause of these feelings & emotions. Once you get there, you’ll have a full mindfulness toolbox to reach into. These tools, along with your hard work, will allow you to begin to heal.

An easy way to bring mindfulness into your daily life is to ask yourself some simple questions every day. Guided writing prompts can help you track patterns in your life that might go unnoticed without closer attention. I’ve listed some below to choose from but you can also purchase journals with built in prompts online. The one I’ve used the most is: 📚The Five-Minute Journal.

Until you find a method that works best for you, here are some questions to get you started ❤️

START OF DAY 🌞
🧐Choose three words to describe your current state of mind?

🧐If your body could talk to you right now, what would it say? What does it need?

🧐If your feelings & emotions could talk to you right now, what would they say? What do they need?

🧐What are you most looking forward to today?

🧐What small thing can you do to make today better?

END OF DAY 🌜🌛
🧐List 3 things that brought you happiness today?

🧐What’s 1 lesson you can take away from the experiences you had today?

🧐How could you have made today better?

🧐What can you do right now to prepare yourself, physically & mentally, for whatever you have planned for tomorrow?

7-Day Challenge – Daily Self Check-In – Day 1

Day 1: I know we’re all going through a lot right now, so this week I’m going to pop on here once a day and remind you to stop what you’re doing, take a deep breath and ask yourself how you are and what you need to go back into your day in a more mindful, healthy & happy way. It’s so important to take a moment to check-in with yourself. Especially right now!

So I’m here, as a friendly reminder to take a moment to do whatever you need to do to check-in with yourself at least once a day to see where you’re at both physically & mentally.

Your mindful tip for today is: Get outside for 5 minutes! No phone, put it away! It doesn’t matter, it can wait… five minutes of uninterrupted time to yourself outside 🌲

I hope you’re well and I’ll be back again tomorrow – have a good day ❤️
