My Hope For You

It’s Friday & life’s been a real doozy, for almost everyone I know, so I don’t want to talk about anything heavy today. I don’t want to add to the noise. It’s already too loud, too sad, too stressful, too cluttered. I don’t want to give advice, just for this one day.

Just for today, all I have to say is I hope you have a great day. I hope you have a great weekend. I hope whatever your carrying isn’t too heavy. I hope you find some release, even if it’s only from one thing that’s been grinding you down. I hope someone or something makes you smile and brightens up your day. I hope you catch a break. I hope something wonderful happens to you. I hope you get good news. I hope you find some healing from something that’s been bringing you pain. I hope you spend time doing something you love with someone you love and I hope that, even if it’s just for a moment, you’re able to let everything else go.

I hope you’re well, and I care about you, even if I don’t know you – Sending love ❤️

Happy Friday!

Confident & Happy In Your Own Skin!

How comfortable is it for you to be alone with your thoughts?

Confession – I used to think I was just an extremely extroverted human in my younger years. It was rare that I didn’t have plans. I filled every second with something; work, school, friends, insert distraction, insert distraction, insert distraction.

Years later & thousands of dollars in therapy 😂 I realized all I was trying to do was avoid, avoid, avoid. I was avoiding all of my uncomfortable feelings & emotions. It’s sad really. I often wonder how many people are living their lives like this & don’t realize their completely burned out by their own distraction tactics. I know I was & it took some digging, hard work & commitment to figure it out.

Truth -Today I can honestly say that I love hanging out with myself 🤣 and with very little distractions. In fact, I’m more introverted now than ever. I’m 100% comfortable being alone with myself & my thoughts & I owe this to my exceptional therapist, dedication & mindfulness.

More truth – Getting to this point was PAINFUL! It was not pleasant work at all 😩 Rummaging through all those neglected feelings & emotions was HORRIBLE (just trying to set up realistic expectations of the process, haha).

BUT…it was SO worth it! I’m so glad I stuck it out, ugly cried 1 billion times & cared for all those feelings & emotions that deserved my time & attention, because now they’ve been put to rest.

Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT perfect, FAR from it, but now when a sneaky upsetting feeling or emotion pops up I know how to deal with it in real-time & I’m over it in less than 24 hours 🎉

I’m here to ask, to beg you, to dedicate time to healing old wounds, nurturing painful feelings & emotions & making your mental health a priority! The payoff is priceless. Not only will you have an incredible relationship with yourself but all of your relationships will flourish because when you’re happy in your own skin it permeates every aspect of your life.

Do one small thing today, or sometime this week, to help you get closer to nurturing parts of yourself that have been longing for attention. Take care of you so you can be fully present for others ❤️

Unplug & Regroup

It’s okay to put down all the things that feel heavy, all the things that aren’t currently serving you, all the things that are causing you mental distress.

It doesn’t make you a bad person. You’re no good to yourself or anyone else if you’re mentally drained and depleted.

Put it down, unplug & walk away. Regroup and come back recharged, happier & healthier.

What’s Your Self-Care Routine?

Happy Tuesday! I want to know what you’re doing to take care of yourself right now. What’s your self-care routine when you’re stressed & anxious? First, I’d like to define self-care, because I’m the biggest nerd & I want to clarify that even though this can include a hot bath, it’s much more than that:⠀

“the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.”⠀
“the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being & happiness, in particular during periods of stress.”⠀

See, it’s not just some foofoo word, it’s much more; and I currently can’t think of a period of time that’s more stressful than mandatory social distancing due to a global pandemic!⠀

I break self-care routines, for myself & my clients, into 3 main categories: mental, emotional & physical. A lot of the techniques overlap; getting outside can improve your mental & emotional wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing; exercise can improve your physical well being & your emotional & mental wellbeing; so I’ve grouped them all together below 👇🏽 ⠀

😊Meditation ⠀
😊Breathwork ⠀
😊Talk it out – You can do this w/ a licensed therapist, a registered coach like myself, or a friend/family member⠀
😊Stream of conscious writing ⠀
😊Get outside⠀
😊Exercise⠀
😊Get enough sleep⠀
😊Hydrate⠀
😊Nutritious, healthy diet⠀
😊Socialize – This is hard right now, you have to be creative! Use FaceTime, Houseparty or Zoom. There are so many tools available to help us keep in touch with loved ones. We need to social distance, NOT social isolate ❤️⠀
😊Rest/unwind – This is a must! You have to find time to hit the reset button & unwind⠀
😊Treat yourself – This is where the bath, face mask & pampering come in. ⠀
😊 Miscellaneous activity – Paint, bake, cook, play a game, watch a movie, beach, picnic, vacation, etc.⠀

Obviously you can’t do all of these in one day, but it’s my go-to list to pick from. Ideally, some of these should be part of your daily routine, like hydrating, getting enough sleep & eating healthy. Pepper in a few of the other things each day to have a balanced mental, emotional & physical self-care routine. ⠀

Your turn, what’s your go-to self-care routine 🤗❤️

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

Today I want to talk about negative thoughts. I’m very passionate about this topic and have been for a long time. I think it’s especially important right now, with everything that’s going on, and all the feelings and emotions that may be coming up for you, for all of us. 5 years ago when I started my business I quickly noticed a trend, people were afraid to have negative thoughts. I wanted to know where this fear came from and scoured the internet. I noticed another trend whilst scouring, particularly in my field, a narrative about predominantly thinking positive thoughts in order to be happy & live the life you want. Before I say anything else, let me say that I fully encourage a positive mindset, I think it’s an incredible mindfulness tool, BUT YOU’RE ALSO HUMAN & IT’S OKAY TO HAVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS!

Let me say it again for the people in the back… IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY!

When I coach clients about negative thoughts & emotions my line of thinking is this; let the thought come up, acknowledge it & then ask questions. You can learn a lot about yourself during this process of self-discovery. Why did I have this thought? Where did it come from? What’s going on in my life or in this moment to make me feel this way? Maybe you need a good cry. Maybe you need to scream into a pillow. Take a long shower. Have some time alone. Go for a long walk. Maybe you need to meditate, journal, or talk to a therapist. Thoughts will come and go, it’s part of the human condition, so let them come, acknowledge them, process them, and then deal with them in real time. For me, when coaching, it’s not about the thought, it’s about how long you live in that negative state. You can’t live there, that’s not good for health, but shoving all your feelings down isn’t good for your health either. You need to process feelings and emotions as they come up. So here’s how I do it:

I have a negative thought 😟

I acknowledge it – I see you… 👀🧠

I ask questions; Where did you come from? Why are you bumping around in my head? What’s going on in my life right now that bred this thought? Okay, I think I have enough information, now what?

I need tools to help me process these uncomfortable feelings & emotions. What tools are available to me, that will also work for me?

PAUSE… I can give you a list of 10,000 incredible tools, but the trick is, you have to pick ones that resonate with you so you’ll do them, commit to them, come back to them & and they actually provide results for you. So find what works for you, the following are just a few suggestions…

You could process your feelings via journaling, meditating, physical movement, discussing struggles with a friend or therapist, getting outside, taking a day off to rest and recover, etc. There are so many incredible tools out there to help you process feelings in real time! Carve some time out of your day to find the tools that work best for you.

Moral of the story, IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY, especially right now! Give yourself the freedom to feel whatever you need to feel. Then process those feelings, and move on. You can be grateful that you’re not sick, while also feeling afraid of losing your job. You can be thankful that your fridge is full of food, while also feeling really sad that you can’t go to dinner with friends and family. It’s all okay. It does not mean you’re a demon spawn from hell, you’re just human 👽

For the entire month of April I am offering new clients the opportunity to pay what you can for virtual coaching sessions in meditation, mindfulness, breathwork & yoga. Now more than ever we need to make sure we’re taking care of ourselves both physically & mentally. I’d love to help you through this incredibly hard time. Staying Grounded in Uncertain Times

I’m trying to stay grounded when the world around me feels like the complete opposite! I try to stay informed. I’m not an ignorance is bliss kind of gal. I like to get my hands dirty. I like to think I can be part of the change, moving the world in a positive direction, in every possible way I can; but everything feels SO much bigger than me right now, and I’ve had to tune some things out for my mental sanity. I feel like a coward, like I should be swimming in knowledge at all times or I’m part of the problem, but the reality is…I can’t change the world. I can help, that’s for sure, but I’m looking at things the wrong way, which is why I needed to recenter 🧘🏻‍♀️⠀

This forced isolation & down time is an opportunity to pivot. Not only in my business but as a human on this planet. Being silent right now has it’s positives. What can I do to take care of myself in this moment? How can I heal my pain, that’s directly related to what’s going on in the world, so I can pour positivity right back out into a world that needs it now more than ever. If I’m not well, I’m no good to anyone, and I definitely won’t be able to SAVE THE WORLD, lol 😂

I know this is hard, some of you have lost your jobs, or are on mandatory leave without pay, and that sucks, and I’m sorry! Some of you are sick, or have lost someone, and I’m so sorry. Here’s my question for you… How can you take care of yourself right now? How can you heal your pain so you can go back out into the world, when the dust has settled, and make the world a better place because of the lessons you learned when things were darker than they’ve ever been? What do you need right now? I’m asking myself the same question…let’s do this together. Trying times build warriors. Hard times build strength. Dark times build knowledge. We will come out the other side of this stronger, but use this time to take care of yourself and heal.
