“Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
I sent this to someone recently who’s been having a difficult time. They responded by saying, “hope isn’t going to change my situation.”
Here’s the thing about this quote & hope…
I can only speak from personal experience, as I’ve been through tough times in my life, at times even hitting the proverbial rock bottom, as I’m sure some if not all of you have as well. When I was without hope that things would get better things got real dark, real fast, and they definitely didn’t improve.
I had to work very hard to make my life better, nothing happened without great effort and creating opportunities for myself. It’s not like I was sitting around all day full of hope and things just fell on my lap, but having hope that things could get better is what got me off my bum and back out into the world, creating opportunities for a better life.
In my experience, hopelessness causes more hopelessness, and without hope, we crumble.
Hope indeed can make hardships easier to bear. 2020 has been full of hardships but I am hopeful that we are finally going in the right direction, not without the need of hard work, dedication, and unity, but I truly believe change is in our sights.
Sending hope your way today, happy Friday!
