A Work In Progress

I’m rattled. I’m rattled by every single thing that’s going on in the world right now. I’m shaken! I’m confused! I’m lost! I’m angry! I feel like someone blind folded me, drove me to the middle of nowhere, walked me out into an empty field, spun me around a few times, and then left me there to figure out where I am and how to get home with no supplies.

I’m scared because everything that’s happened between March of 2020 and now has made me question EVERYTHING about myself.

My morals, values, dreams, goals & purpose in life.

I’m all of these things, but I also feel like someone lit a fire under my ass. I’m invigorated, full of hope, full of drive & ambition to do more, to do better, and to be part of major change in this world.

I have an overwhelming urge to go back to school for civil or human rights. I want to be a part of something bigger. I want to a part of change that happens in the world, and not just here on some social media post (though I do believe that social media plays it’s part too). I want to be out in the real world, making real change!

I want to get my hands dirty and devote my life to something more.

Right now I don’t know exactly what that is, or what direction I’m being lead in, or what any of what I just said even means, or if it makes sense.

All I know for sure is that I’ve had enough of this broken machine and I want no part of it anymore. I want so desperately to be a part of this new world we’re building together, and no, I don’t think this is a just a phase this time. Call me naive, but I truly believe we are waking up and we’re literally building a new world. This will take time, a long time, but it’s not impossible!

Bear with me as I cocoon myself and grow into whatever next version of me is in the works 🦋

In the meantime I will continue to use this platform to hold space for healing & navigating the most important part of you…your soul & your mind, for this is where all great ideas, change, and revolutions are born. I’m here to hold space for you. I will continue to do this to the best of my ability until I figure out what’s next ❤️

7-Day Challenge – Daily Self Check-In – Day 5

Today is day 5 of the daily self check-in we’re doing this week & though I’m going to see this through until the end I would be remiss not to mention my deep sorrow and anger about what’s going on in the world right now. In fact it’s hard for me to talk about anything but. What happened in Georgia, the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, and what happened in Minneapolis, the murder of George Floyd is deplorable, and the sad thing is I could fill thousands of post with the names of fellow HUMANS who have been killed because of the color of their skin, or who they love, or what God they believe in. It’s disgusting that this is still happening in the year 2020, honestly it’s disgusting that it ever happened, but the fact that it’s still happening all these years after slavery, after the holocaust, WHY?

WE HAVE TO DO BETTER PEOPLE! WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON? WAKE UP! ENOUGH ALREADY!

Today, I want you to stop what you’re doing right now, take a deep breath, and ask… what can I do for my fellow humans? How can I help? How can I reach out? How can I let them know I care, I hear them, I see them, I support them, and I have their back? What do they need from me? Who can I reach out to make real change in this world?

These are all question I too am asking myself and I plan to do extensive research about what role I can play in ending of this deep hatred today!

I know it’s cheesy, but all I can think of are these lyrics from the Pink Floyd song, “On the Turning Away:”

“Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away?”

The turning away must end today!

I’ll leave you with this poem from the beloved Nelson Mandela, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

That’s it for today, be the change you wish to see in the world, I’ll see you tomorrow ❤️

How To Manage Stress In Healthy Ways

Stress is an unavoidable fact of life. It’s part of the human condition. Uncertainties & an inability to fully control life events are something we all have to deal with. It’s not hard to get overwhelmed. In fact these days it’s very easy to get overwhelmed with feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, worry, isolation & panic.

It’s imperative to cultivate inner resources for dealing with these feelings. I’m here to try to equip you with as many coping strategies for dealing with the aforementioned feelings & emotions as possible.

One way to take more control of your stress is to track it & find coping mechanisms that work for you.

You can start by making a list of 10 or more things in your life that produce feelings of stress & anxiety. List the stressor, then write a brief description next to the stressor. For example, if you said “Driving in LA,” your description could be, “the constant traffic & noise makes me feel claustrophobic.” Now rate this on a scale of 1-10. With 1 being very little stress & 10 being an extreme amount of stress.

You’ll want to keep this list somewhere that you can come back to it roughly every 3 months or so. Set a calendar event so you can keep track of what stressors maybe disappeared (remove or lower rating), which ones intensified (adjust rating & coping mechanism), and add & rate new stressors that presented themselves (come up with a coping mechanism for new stressor).

You’ll need to find coping mechanism that work for you but here are some helpful suggestions; get outside, meditate, exercise, breathwork, therapy, journal, etc. I’ve also added some guided writing prompts you can consistently come back to help manage your stressors & track habitual patterns.

7-Day Challenge – Daily Self Check-In – Day 4

Today is day 4 of the daily self check-in challenge we’re doing this week. Today started out rough for me. I was feeling everything. I was so overwhelmed by the events in Georgia & Minneapolis. I was nauseated by the death toll from COVID-19. I was struggling to concentrate, struggling to focus, I felt like a zombie. I decided to take my own advice and close my eyes, take a few deep breaths & check-in with myself. What did I need today to take care of my overwhelming feelings and emotions so I could go back out into the world and help my clients?

I want you to do the same for yourself right now, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and ask yourself what you need to take care of yourself today so you have the strength to take care of others. The world needs good, kind, loving, caring people right now, but if you’re cup is empty you can’t help others in need. Change has to start with you!

What I needed today was meditation, so that’s my mindful tip of the day, meditate. Check out Headspace, Insight Timer, and Calm. There are thousands of meditations for whatever feelings and emotions you need to manage. You can meditate for 1 minute or 90, it’s your choice. If an app isn’t for you or isn’t available to you just close your eyes, wherever you are right now, place your hands on your belly and connect deeply with your breath. Scan your body from the top of your head down to your toes and allow feelings and emotions to come up without judgment. Allow them to come up without trying to manipulate or change them. Close with a few more deep breaths and open your eyes. Now you have information about where you are today. Care for yourself like you would someone you love, so you can become more balanced and centered, which will allow you to pour back into those around you. We NEED each other right now! Take care of you so you can take care of others 👯‍♀️

I’ll see you tomorrow, be well ❤️

7-Day Challenge – Daily Self Check-In – Day 3

Today is day 3 of the “7-Day Daily Self Check-In Challenge.” I’m doing this every day this week to help you remember to check in with yourself. A little self-inquiry reminder. So right now, I want you to stop whatever you’re doing and take a few deep breaths. Now ask yourself, how do I feel right now? Am I feeling any physical pain? Am I tense, tight? What about my emotions and feelings? Do I feel calm & collected, scattered, sad, anxious? What can I do right now to take care of myself?

My mindfulness tip for today is to move your body. Move any physical or emotional stress, anxiety & tension out of your body via any type of movement that resonates with you. Movement is incredibly healing and we hold a lot of stress & tension in our bodies. We also hold a lot of emotional pain in our bodies as well. If you can’t do this exercise right now save this post for later and give it a try.

That’s it for today, I’ll see you tomorrow, have a good day!
